Purpose
The SCIP grant program assists states with funding to address gun violence, the programs and initiatives that target the risk factors likely to lead to violence, related gun violence reduction programs and initiatives, and behavioral health crisis intervention-related programs or initiatives. Funds are also available for court proceedings and related programs, including, but not limited to, mental health courts, drug courts, and veteran’s treatment courts.
The SCIP Advisory Board will inform and guide the state regarding gun violence reduction programs and initiatives, including specific strategies, priorities, budgets, and timelines for the grant award process and outlining the approaches in the State Crisis Intervention Program Plan. The SCIP Advisory Board is comprised of seven members, each representing one of the following areas: law enforcement, the community, the courts, prosecutors, behavioral health providers, victim service providers, and the legal profession.
