For over 20 years, the Kansas Governor's Grants Program (KGGP) has been a cornerstone in supporting and empowering victim service professionals across Kansas. It began in 2002, with the launch of Building Advocacy Skills, Information and Knowledge (B.A.S.I.K.), an innovative training program designed to equip advocates with essential tools to support crime victims and survivors.
Building on the B.A.S.I.K. foundation curriculum, the KGGP launched the Kansas Academy for Victim Assistance (KAVA) in 2012. KAVA is a dynamic, virtual training academy designed to elevate professional development for those working with crime victims and survivors.
Through its engaging online format, KAVA offers a comprehensive and accessible learning experience rooted in victim-centered, trauma-informed practices. This approach ensures participants are equipped to provide consistent, compassionate support to individuals impacted by crime across Kansas. KAVA graduates leave the program with the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve.
KAVA benefits Kansas. Effective services improve outcomes for victims of crime. KAVA provides victim assistance professionals with:
- Victim-centered training
- Trauma-informed training
